All thanks to Everly Brown

Posted on 21:10 by Unknown
"Residents reached out to our local leaders: Borough president/ Helen Marshall, Councilman/ Leroy Comrie and many others. Our request was to clean the abandoned property at 107-58 164 Street.

Local leaders ignored residents/voters. Thereafter, residents were forced to proceed with a protest. Residents invited: Everly Brown, Melinda Katz, and Peter Vallone, because the three are asking for our votes to be the next borough president.

Only one person marched with residents on 6/29/13 against landlords who abandoned their property. That ONE PERSON IS EVERLY BROWN. He MARCHED with us while Katz and Vallone looked the other way.

Thanks Everly Brown. As a result of Everly Brown's intervention, the site was cleaned. Queens residents, please show thanks to Everly Brown at the POLLS.

Vote for Everly Brown for borough president. Brown will continue to serve Queens residents. Send this message to your friends, family etc.

1 & 2 photos are before the protest. The last photo is after the protest." - Pamela Hazel, Jamaica

No one has the guts to clean up the entrails

Posted on 21:22 by Unknown

"This has to be the last straw if residents have a chance to good health and dignity.

Notice, that no one is standing at the bus stop at 108 & Merrick Boulevard. Starting around 11:00 0' clock yesterday morning (9/3/13). An awful smell was so strong that the police had to use a bin to make the bus stop impassable.

The scent was too intense for human or animals. Needless to say, it traveled through several blocks.

Near-by employees and the general public were busy on their cell calling 311, local leaders or anyone for help.

This played out throughout the day. About 6:47 p. m, a young white sanitation inspector was driving by.

A few of us tried to stop him, he continued driving, but was stopped by the red light at 108 & Merrick. We asked about the scent. He replied that it is animal guts and other remains. The light turned green, he sped off while saying the authorities are aware of the situation.

However, employees near- by said that the guts and remains were left by a truck.

Councilman Comrie, when will you and others leaders put a stop to this inhumanity? Also, an investigation is necessary.

We are awaiting a response." - Pamela Hazel via Joe Moretti

What are the chances?

Posted on 23:11 by Unknown

From Eyewitness News:

A woman accidentally threw away thousands of dollars meant to pay for her daughter's college tuition.

The Queens mom has her money back, thanks to some New York City sanitation workers.

Harried working mother of two Melissa Gallagher was rushing from home to her double parked car when she stopped at the garbage can on her corner to throw out a water bottle.

"And it must've just slipped off my wrist," Gallagher said.

Her little Coach wristlet pocketbook, had slipped off into the trash, but this one carried treasure!

"$4,000," Gallagher said.

She was carrying the cash to make a bank deposit to cover her daughter Clarissa's tuition, a basketball player and Junior at SUNY Old Westbury.

The corner can had been emptied along with all the others on Myrtle Avenue, so she frantically called the Department of Sanitation.

The city collects roughly 10,500 tons of refuse a day, rolling 2,230 collection trucks continuously, but DSNY welcomed her to go through the garbage of that truck on her route the next day.

A supervisor had the haul laid out at the Waste Management facility in Maspeth, and the determined mom started digging.

Several helpful sanitation workers assisted in the search, but it was Melissa herself, who spotted the designer pouch.

Lots more garbage all over Jamaica

Posted on 21:37 by Unknown
From Clean Up Jamaica Queens:

"The powers to be love to throw around “Vibrant & Diverse” in describing Jamaica Queens. Well here is what your “Vibrant & Diverse” gets you, in just a radius of about 4 blocks. Councilman Ruben Wills is so on the money, it is the people, the extremely low class slobs who have invaded and taken over our community to make it look like some third world sh*t hole.

This is in front of some Tax and Accounting Service. Hopefully their accounting services are better than their cleanup of their storefront right down from Citi Bank.

Speaking of Citi Bank, this sh*t hole mess is right in front of Citi Bank and a bus stop.

Right across the street from the above mess , is this wonderful sight, the typical Jamaica sighting of a mattress. Did not know that Skylight Cellular was in the bedding business. See the low class third world immigrants walk by just like they are back home.

Another typical site, the overflowing garbage can (not the Asian guy). Considering these few blocks are “disgusting dirty Little Pakistan”, this should come as no surprise.

And another overflowing Hillside Avenue garbage can, this one with the typical household garbage that comes from the many illegal apartments in Jamaica. This is in front of the Guyana Palm Court Bar/Restaurant.

Right around the corner of the Guyana Palm Court and in front of Kahn’s Tutorial in the same building is this. When I reported this, the status (# 1-1-877910771) came back as “The Department of Sanitation investigated this complaint and found no violation at the location.”

And in front of the typical low class third world sh*t hole apartments that litter Jamaica is this mess. I am not sure which mess is worse the garbage or these ugly sh*t hole third world apartments.

The usual dumping ground in front of the empty lot at 170-19 89th Ave that has been going on for several years and nothing seems to be happening to the owner.

So there you have it, from 169th Street and Hillside Ave to 171st Street ending at 170th Street and 89th Ave. In these few blocks I see several violations, but yet, the same day I was talking photos, I was the one who got a ticket for riding my bike on the sidewalk off of Archer Avenue, since there are no bike lanes and that street is a notorious dangerous one, but yet the police officers felt the need to sound their siren and ride up on the corner and issue me a ticket.

So here is your “Vibrant and Diverse” Jamaica (I guess when you cannot come up with any thing really good about the community, you go for the standard “Vibrant and Diverse” in your publicity, because “Sh*tty and Low Class” probably is not a good selling point.

But congratulations, Jamaica Queens is now officially a third world country and a really sh*tty third world country.

Am I the only one who thinks that Jamaica has a really major garbage problem and that nothing is being done about this? Or are you all okay with this damn mess everywhere?"

This exists in 2013?

Posted on 21:29 by Unknown
From the NY Post:

It’s a human kennel.

Less than a 10-minute walk from Soho is the Sun Bright Hotel — where men pay $10 a night to live in tiny cells bounded by chicken wire.

It’s a single-room-occupancy hotel that has been operating since the late 19th century and where today men live side by side in filth.

Nestled on the edge of Chinatown between the Bowery and Elizabeth Street, the hotel on Hester Street is minutes from Balthazar, where the $135 côte de boeuf for two would cover half a month’s rent at the Sun Bright.

Only men are allowed in the units on the third and fourth floors, the hotel’s most hellish. The accommodations there measure 7 by 5 feet, smaller than the average 8-by-10 solitary-confinement cell in a state prison.

Roaches, bedbugs, fleas and other vermin infest the building. Hot hallways reek of rotting trash, sweat and urine.

More than 100 men on the floor share one bathroom with two shower stalls, four toilets and one urinal. Wet, moldy spackle peels off the ceiling like snakeskin. Black mold spreads over filthy walls in two shower stalls.

An unacceptable situation

Posted on 21:35 by Unknown
From Clean Up Jamaica Queens:

While riding my bike Sunday morning, I encountered several garbage strewn places (many illegal dumping and most of the spots have been reported numerous times).

Take a good look at our community:

1. Our Post Office (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) at the corner of 164th St & 89th Ave.

2. Post Office Parking Lot at 164th St & 89th Ave. This has been piling up since last week and I wondered how long it would stay like that.

3. Lot next to 170-18 Liberty St, or as I like to call that block, “Ghetto Row”.

4. What appears to be an empty house at 103-24 171st St.

5. The next two photos are a house at 104-11 171st St that I have reported several times.

6. The next three photos are an empty half built building next to Mike’s Towing at 115-45 Merrick Blvd right across the street from the Northeastern Conference of Seventh Day Adventists Administration Building and a few blocks from the beautiful Roy Wilkins Park. It is obvious this has been an illegal dumping ground for a long time and obvious nothing has been done about this.

7. And here again is the notorious empty James Fobb house at 107-58 108th Ave, which has been reported for two years now.

8. The bus stop at Merrick Blvd & 108th Ave, a major spot for dropping off household garbage.

9. Over flowing garbage cans at SE corner of Jamaica Ave & 170th St. A constant problem.

10. The SW corner of Jamaica Ave & 170th St.

Now does anyone reading this think that this is totally acceptable? Would any of this be acceptable in a majority white area? So why is this acceptable in a community of people of color? Is it that people of color do not deserve to live in a nice area, is that it, but white people are.

Again this is a combination of some of the majorly low class ghetto people we have in our community, a major lack of enforcement by DOS, poor leadership from our top officials down to our community boards and upstanding citizens of our community either ignoring this, thinking this is the norm or not doing something as small as reporting these places to 311 and calling your local officials.

Yesterday, I was at a screening of the film: Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes put together by Art, Food & Soul and presented at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. Afterwards I talked to several of the people in attendance, many young and open-minded artists in our community who want a better Jamaica and they talked about the conditions of our community and what it looks like and they were not happy about it at all.

And this is why the perception of Jamaica is the way it is. The perception is REALITY!

So why is NOTHING being done about this? Why I am constantly reporting on these conditions, many that are the same areas over and over again?

What else? Garbage!

Posted on 21:52 by Unknown
From Clean Up Jamaica Queens:

Jamaica certainly has an endless supply of “garbage photos” thanks to the low class slobs in the community, our ineffective leaders, Mayor Bloomberg’s huge budget cuts, especially for Queens (including major cuts to sanitation) and a lack of enforcement of sanitation and litter laws already on the books.

Here are my garbage photos of the week, courtesy of low class ghetto slobs, slumlords and low class property owners.

This damn mess at 166-11 91st St, which is a constant on-going problem, is right in the downtown area (a half block from Jamaica Ave on Merrick Blvd), right next to a parking lot entrance (the site of the whenever $50 million retail project), near the police station, right across the street from the beautiful former Valenica Lowe’s Wonder Theatre (Tabernacle of Pray Church) and right next to their Tabernacle Bible Institute & Book Store at 90-07 Merrick Blvd. A number of complaints obviously has resulted in NOTHING.

I love this shot here of the same house. No matter how much of a low class slob you are, you certainly make sure you have your DISH TV. From the looks of it, there are at least 5 families tossed into this house, which I am sure there are illegal apartments to boot and a few other families thrown in. You know what this shit smells like during the hot and humid weather……………………………….and wait till you get a whiff of the garbage too.

Another chronic problem at the apartment building at 90-21, 90-23, 90-25 170th St. Again this has been reported numerous times. You see what good that is doing. This lot at one time had a nice one family house, now it is a four story and at least 16 family third world shit pile, thanks to zoning.

So, is this the “Jamaica Revealed” and the “Vibrant and Diverse” Jamaica I keep hearing about. Is this what you call revitalizing Jamaica, because my version is a little bit different.

In all the articles about Councilman Leroy Comrie (Jamaica District 27) dropping out of the Queens Borough President race, he stated and I quote, “I am looking forward to serving the people of Queens—in one capacity or another—for a long time to come.”

Well, Mr. Comrie, here is one capacity that you can begin with. You can start serving by putting on some gloves and getting your ass over to these chronic garbage sites and bring your little buddy Ruben Wills with you. Yes, Mr. Wills, you are so right when you said “it is the people” (which these photos prove without a doubt), but a total lack of enforcement of the sanitation and litters laws is also a huge problem.

What the fuck, I don’t get this shit, it is not brain surgery or curing cancer.

I am now in favor of total gentrification of Jamaica! You all have had your chance, but you all have failed miserably.

Bowne Park update

Posted on 21:10 by Unknown
From 10am until sundown on Friday after the original Bowne Park post was put up, I received reports that parks workers were there in droves addressing the nasty conditions present. Here is an update:

Hi Crappy –

Well – they’ve mowed the lawn and emptied the trash.

Here are some pix.

Decaying tree branches providing a much-needed tripping hazard – check!

Inaccessible garbage pail out of reach within the fenced-off area, surrounded by garbage chucked over the fence – check!

Unnecessary second bocce court construction project on target for mid-2014 completion – check!

Scummy, dirty broke-down pond – check!

Gee - mowing the lawn did not entirely eliminate the neglected, sorry atmosphere at Bowne Park – go figure!

To Quote Bette Davis (and Elizabeth Taylor) - "What a Dump!"

Regards,

Flooshing Rezident

Jamaica garbage photo of the week

Posted on 21:04 by Unknown
Last night at about 7:30pm, walking home from Blink gym, I head up 163rd St toward Hillside Avenue to walk along that stretch. Do not ask me why, I think Hillside Avenue from Queens Boulevard all the way to 175th Street at Major Mark Park is one of the ugliest, disgusting, dirtiest stretch of streets outside of some third world country, in fact Hillside Avenue pretty much resembles some third world country such as Pakistan. It is constantly filthy, the mostly shitty stores are a miss-mosh of shit that sometimes I have not idea what they are since there are so many signs, car lots scattered all over and it is heavily traveled by not only cars but buses with bus stops everywhere. It is just one big major shit hole. Probably the worse in New York City.

While walking along this nasty ass stretch, I came across this site at the corner of 168th St & Hillside, in front of the customary 99 cent store. To really take this in, you had to be standing next to this. At first when I was standing next to the street sign post, I had no idea this was a garbage can, since a big blanket was sticking out of it and draped along the side of it. Of course there was all this other shit there as well. It was not till I turned at another angle that I realized there was a garbage can underneath all of this shit garbage.

???????????????????????????????

This is not unusual for Hillside Avenue, but this was one of the worst I have seen. I realize there is no Business Improvement District here (the biggest improvement would be to tear this whole stretch down and start over) and that the majority of people who visit this stretch and congregate here are pretty much low class slobs (I do not know if they even noticed this or if this was just normal to them), but you think sanitation can make more stops here.  Since this is a very heavily traveled stretch and so many garbage cans get filled with not only daily shit but household crap, why doesn’t sanitation make more stops in this area or put more trash cans and why don’t our elected officials, including you Mr. Comrie, see that this happens and clean this low class third world hell hole up.

Astoria City Councilman Candidate Costa Constantinides, running for one of the thug Vallone Brother’s (Peter Vallone Jr.) seat, says he has a “five point” plan to battle litter and overflowing trash cans in Astoria — including a pledge to push for more frequent trash pickups and to hire street cleaning crews.” Obviously the garbage problem is just not confined to Jamaica.

Why not beat him to the punch Mr. Comrie. So where is your “five point” plan or your “anti-blight bill” that I heard you mention on the 4 part garbage series back in March? Or were you just blowing the typical political smoke up one’s ass bullshit.

Hell there are enough people in Jamaica out work, get some funding for them and put them to work to walk around this area and keep it cleaned, get more trash cans and have sanitation make more stops. Damn, why is everything a big ass issue for simple things.

Dead wildlife and filthy conditions at Bowne Park

Posted on 21:45 by Unknown
"Bowne Park is exceptionally filthy and filled with dead animals this year. Last year we had a great young girl there every day cleaning up the park and looking out for everyone and their pets. This year, the Parks Dept. has really dropped the ball. Perhaps Bloomberg moved all the money into his Canadian Geese Extinction Program!

Here are some not-so-lovely images.

There are about four garbage pails for the entire park.

They are always overflowing with garbage and are rarely emptied.

I like a beer as much as the next person but this is ridiculous. We need webcams beaming to a website that we can all monitor.

Chairs, shopping carts and baby strollers are regularly thrown into the pond and are left there for weeks at a time. The wooden platform by the seating area has been removed and a crappy metal barricade on wheels has been positioned in front of the missing platform for months now. Would it really cost that much to replace a few pieces of wood???? Yesterday, the temporary (HA!) metal barricade was in the pond – along with the chairs, shopping carts and baby strollers!

The pond itself is filthy and there are new dead turtles every day. It’s a really nice sight for the kids and the animal lovers!

When notified of four abandoned baby ducklings, the Parks. Dept. lied to PETA and said they had been taken care of, but they were, in actuality, ignored and eventually killed by the snapping turtles (12 out of 13 died, 4 had been abandoned by their mother – perhaps she was killed as well).

I guess it would have been too difficult to put on waders and go out with a net. They were trapped in the water – it’s not as though they could fly away! This was the only day they got out of the pond and it was because the pond had overflowed – a common occurrence due to the jerry-built fountains!

Trees bases are filled with garbage (perhaps a drugs stash – note the Marino’s bag – I guess these slobs are local!)

It’s absolutely disgusting!

Yet the Parks Dept. has $700,000 (that’s the number people are throwing around) to WASTE on a bocce court!!! And even that’s a complete disaster!

Two guys show up perhaps once a week and work for perhaps an hour. They must be getting a  monthly fee and, as such, are majorly dragging their heels. This should have been a $30,000 two week job! At the very least it should have been finished for the summer.

Why hasn’t it been completed? Why don’t the contractors just put the damned benches in and take their fence home? Because they get paid thousands every month on the fence rental!!! This entire project warrants an investigation. It just reeks of corruption!

We, the local residents, are disgusted by the conditions present at Bowne Park and we are angry!  Joe Moretti – your homegrown activism is starting to spread to Flooshing!!!! Thanks for the forum Crappy!" - Flooshing Rezident
